It has started. This summer is going to be a busy one for us, with a newly almost one year old who wants to move everywhere, grandparents visiting, and a new technical editing course starting for me. Not to mention the book that’s still to be completed. Yes. Better not mention the book. My lack of productivity on that front is embarrassing already.
But it’s summer. Let’s not think negative thoughts. Let’s think about summer plans. There will probably be short visits to the city and around, lots of visits to the parks and neighboring farms, splash pads and lakes, but not much else, because it could get too crazy for this already stressed soul.
We already had our yearly dose of Ogunquit, Maine and that should last me for most of the summer. Or else. Nothing else, actually.
Oh, before I go (because I feel exhausted already after writing this world-shattering blog post) I want to congratulate my friend Rachel J. Fenton whose novel Some Things the English was shortlisted for the 2014 Dundee International Book Prize!
She’s … like no other! I’m sure I’ll soon write to congratulate her on winning the prize. It almost feels like a personal achievement for me too. This might be as close as I’ll ever get to this feeling. Yeap. Let me go and cry my self pity into another cup of coffee, until the baby wakes up and it’s time to dance again.
PS – I love your new logo, and your photos for this post are super vibrant and beautiful – I needed that blast of summer colour today! Stunning pics.
Isn’t my new logo great? A pentagram with seven-petaled blue flowers. I’m quite excited about it. The blue flower I have adopted as my logo since I first designed my website, seven is my magic number, and of course the pentagram is a powerful symbol. I think myself very clever. But don’t worry, the feeling is not long lasting, as we very well know.
You ARE very clever! And funny, very funny!
Of course I’ll approve of this comment! Please, WordPress, do you really have to ask?

Lori, you are a friend like no other – thank you for taking time out of your exhausting day to cheer me on. But I have to disagree with something you said – “This might be as close as I’ll ever get to this feeling. Yeap.” – Nope! – I know, how dare I? – But I don’t doubt for one minute that you’ll have success with your writing too, and I’m right here, cheering you on all the way. xxx
Thank you, Rachel! I’m going to pretend that I believe what you’re saying might one day be true, although that day is painted in fantasy from where I’m sitting. But it’s always good to hear such kind words and to have such supportive friends (even when they’re totally delusional!)
